Book 'im, Danno.... An Interview with Jerome Coopersmith
March 03, 2008 02:53 PM PST
During the WGA Strike, I had the privilege of meeting many of the members of the WGA-E. Men and women who write for Daytime, Talk shows, Late Night, Primetime. Among the gems of the WGA-E is Jerome Coopersmith. Jerome began his TV writing career in 1947, when Television was the New Media. Live, one to three cameras, exceptional writing. Jerome wrote for The Armstrong Circle Theater, Streets of San Francisco and Hawaii Five-0. Who knew then that "Book 'em Danno...." would become the iconic catchphrase that it is. Jerome has witnessed the evolution of both Television and the WGA during his 61 years as a writer. Jerome is also the author of the musical Baker Street, co-author of the musical, The Apple Tree, and has written several non-musical play based on historical themes This interview was recorded during the work stoppage.
My thanks to John Chatterton and Where Eagles Dare Studios in New York City for the use of their space.
